Gear love, a gallery on Flickr.

One of the fun things about photography is looking at and playing with all the different types of cameras there are. Here are some that I consider significant.

An excellent group I moderate.

The second of a pair of group studies that seem to have so much going in in the image, that viewing becomes something of an immersive experience. The children are just being children, but what does the body language mean, who is friends with whom, and who is not as chummy as others? On a Leica M2 with FP4 adds to the old school feel of this image, making it timeless in a way.

One of a pair of group studies that I find especially intriguing. This one is of some punters (Brit slang for bettors) at the races. Kodachrome on a Pentax Spotmatic is about as old school as you can get. I happen to love old school photography.

Every once in a while I will find a portrait I admire so much, I will sit and just stare at it. Whether it is the model, the lighting, the pose, the film, the (post) processing or some other feature that just draws me in. This is one of those images. The depth of field, the pose, the even lighting all work together to create a grand image, worth lingering over.

Zeb Andrews exhibits a regular skill that most people only can exhibit occasionally. He is one of those photographers whose work I delight at seeing. Wandering through the spaces filled by his images is always time well spent.

A dramatic sky adds a vivid backdrop to a metal and glass obelisk. Taken with one of the smallest pocket cameras, an Olympus XA, this shot has quality and depth that is unexpected from such a small camera.

An existential examination of nature, or perhaps an individual, and our place within the world. Mood is enhanced by the light and the very slight vignetting. It is both sobering and insightful. The rocks seems to follow the tree, like rats after the Pied Piper. An ambiguous and challenging image.

This is pure genius. The angle is unique and terrific. The sleeve shows a military man, while the dress harkens back to the purity and innocence of the 50s. Beautiful and impactful image.

One of my favourite strobe portraits. The use of colour, space and light are sublime. Delicate and bold at the same time.
